New Students & Families

The Enrollment and Residency office has many important functions:

  1. Help new students enroll in our district
  2. Insure that all new students live within our district boundaries
  3. Investigate all possible fraudulent residency claims

The staff is also trained to help students and their families with the following:

  • Inter District transfer screening
  • Change of address services
  • Appeals due to disenrollment, school placement or inter-district transfer denials
  • McKinney Vento homeless or displaced services
  • Immunization updates and follow-up
  • Community resources/services referrals
  • District & School Boundary issues
  • Translation help in Mandarin and Spanish

Though still focused on verifying each student's residency within our District boundries, the Enrollment and Residency Center also serves as a welcoming place for new students and their families enrolling in the District. Manager Julie Darwish and Senior Clerical Assistant Elena Macias warmly welcome those new to the District and provide them with transition information and support. Their focus is on personalizing the enrollment of each student and family by connecting them to any needed support services and helping them acclimate to the social and cultural environment of their new school community.

A Brief History

In January 2005 the Fremont Union High School District began a residency verification effort to ensure that our schools are reserved for only those students who are valid residents within the District boundaries.

Our District receives funding directly from property taxes paid by our community residents with no funds provided by the state based on enrollment. Our residency verification process ensures that every tax dollar of our community is used to support the students who actually live in our attendance area.

As part of this effort, we have implemented the following actions: increased the documentation required to enroll a student in the district, required residency verification for continuing students, instituted home visits to insure student/family are living where listed, created an anonymous Residency Tip Line, educated all staff members on importance of residency and much more.
